Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking official commented the incident rendered him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
