According to recent claims from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a 20-year prison term for trafficking offenses, is allegedly readying a clemency request for consideration by the Trump administration.

Preferential Handling Alleged at Federal Prison

House Democrats on the House judiciary committee announced that a source provided information indicating the inmate is working on the clemency petition. They also stated she has been receiving special treatment at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the committee, declared in a news release that the facility's chief was “helping” the convict with document preparation and submission to aid her effort for clemency.

The exact content of the clemency request remain unknown, Raskin added.

Alleged Privileges and Special Accommodations

The representative claims that, according to the whistleblower, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are “personally delivered” to her cell, and the supervisor has individually organized exclusive visits for Maxwell and her visitors.

The visits allegedly include a “special cordoned-off area” for attendees and “an assortment of snacks and refreshments” for her guests.

Those visiting Maxwell were also allowed to bring computers, which the congressman characterized as an exceptional measure given the security risk and potential for unsupervised contact.

In one alleged instance, when communications failed for other prisoners, Maxwell was provided directions about instructing her contacts to contact and how staff would relay the call to her.

Supervisor Acting as Assistant

The whistleblower further reportedly told congressional members that when the convict wanted to review and edit documents promptly, she “essentially used” the official as her “personal secretary and administrative assistant”.

The statement indicates that Maxwell’s correspondents would send files directly to the supervisor, who would hand them over to the inmate, for her to examine and change and return them to the warden to scan and provide to the original sender.

Additional Privileges Alleged

Further perks reportedly provided to Maxwell include opportunities to interact with a trainee assistance dog – a benefit not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as private after-hours access to the facility's gym.

Her legal counsel has not yet replied to a inquiry regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

In a statement, the presidential office said that it “will not discuss” on potential clemency requests.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning the convict is not something he has considered,” the spokesperson added.

Recent Background

Over the weekend, it was reported that she told close associates in emails from prison that she was more content at the Texas facility than her former location.

This past summer, Maxwell was transferred from a low-security prison in Florida's capital to the less restrictive prison in Texas, where most detainees are incarcerated for financial and non-violent crimes.

This move, which authorities called as exceptional, occurred just days after she was questioned about the Epstein case by the senior justice official, Todd Blanche, who also previously served as Donald Trump's personal lawyer.

This questioning came as the Trump administration was facing increasing scrutiny to release more documents related to the ongoing probe and amid widespread conjecture around Trump's own personal ties to the fallen billionaire and convicted sex offender, who was found deceased in custody in that year while facing trial on trafficking accusations.

Congressional Response

Through the statement, Raskin also revealed that he had sent a letter to the President, requesting explanations about the whistleblower’s allegations, and called on the president to reject the clemency appeal.

“You should not grant any form of clemency to this adjudicated and remorseless sex offender,” the representative stated in the letter. “Your Administration should not be providing her with room service, with canine interaction, with federal law enforcement officials waiting on her every need, or with any special treatment or institutional privilege at all.”

Raskin requested that the official appear for a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to Trump.

Raskin asked whether Trump had talked about a potential commutation for the convict with Blanche or others, whether he had instructed Blanche or anyone else to arrange Maxwell with the transfer or special conditions in detention, and whether Maxwell, her lawyers, relatives or representatives have made any commitments to Trump or his legal team.

Raskin has asked for a reply to the questions by 24 November.

In October, the US supreme court rejected an appeal from the convict on her sex-trafficking conviction.
